THE NEW SCIENCE OF THE OPTIMIZED BODY

MACROPHAGE
INFILTRATION
AT LONG LAST, WHY YOUR FAT LOSS/WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM IS DOOMED TO FAIL EXPLAINED

IMMUNE CELLS INFILTRATORS IN YOUR FAT CELLS
You did the 90 day challenge. It worked. A few years went by. You gained it back. And then some.
Now you are back at it again with the old get in your "best shape ever" paradigm. But this time you notice something different. The routines that seemed to once work so well don't work the way they once did. It's harder to get the same results.
You attribute this to age, since over time, everything seems harder and harder. But new science sheds light on a reality until now totally unknown to the fitness and weight loss community. It is the reality that the act of shrinking fat cells actually promotes several stress responses that make it much more likely to regain the fat. Welcome to the new reality of immune cell infiltration into fat cells, better known as the problem of macrophage infiltration.
HOW FAT LOSS PROMOTES WEIGHT GAIN
VIA MACROPHAGE INFILTRATION
A macrophage is an immune cell - think white blood cell. These specialized cells are involved in protecting the body from invaders and support the immune response. Some macrophages are pro-inflammatory, meaning they provoke an inflammatory response.

New science has recently shown that the act of losing body fat promotes the infiltration of macrophages inside of the fat cell. As macrophages infiltrate the fat cell, the cells inflammatory signals get flipped on and stay on.
It gets worse. Inside your fat cells are what amount to stem cells. These stem cells normally mature into fat cells themselves, but the presence of macrophages in the cell recruits them to mature into more macrophages.
While there are several reasons why this happens, one of the newer discoveries is the issue of mechanical stress on the fat cell.
Our fat cells are held in place by specialized filaments. The act of shrinking fat cells causes these filaments to get stressed. As a response the body grows more of them and the stress response induces more macrophages inside the cell.
There seems to be a cumulative effect with repeated cycles of weight loss creating a self-fueling cycle where the act of losing fat promotes more macrophages, which promote inflammation and insulin resistance, thus promoting weight gain and more cycles of weight loss where the problem gets worse with every fat loss incursion.
In combination with Tissue Translocation, where portions of bacterial cell walls, called lipopolysaccharide or endotoxins, penetrate the gut and translocate to fat cells, the collective effect is to radically alter fat cells into a sort of frankenstein cell in a state of low grade chronic inflammation which promotes long term weight gain.
